About MeHey there! My name is Ben Glazer and I am a finance and marketing double major from Baltimore, Maryland. I am a sophomore College Park Media Scholar in the Media, Self, and Society program. Feel free to contact me at [email protected] for any questions, comments, or just to say hi!
November 13, 2020 When I was first accepted into the University of Maryland, I was invited to join the College Park Scholars program. Since I am studying business at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, I wanted to chose a scholars program that would be different from what I was already learning. In search for new perspectives and experiences, I immediately was drawn to the Media, Self, and Society program. I wanted to join a community that strived to improve an individual and inspire them to make change within their community by connecting to the world in a modern and efficient way through media. Despite my first year as a scholars student being cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I already saw growth in myself as a student, friend, and community member. Learning throughout the pandemic and adapting to a new world taught me new ways about making the best of all situations and how to best incorporate the new knowledge and ideologies I gained from my CPMS101 class to positively contribute within my community at home and in school. At the start of my second year as a Media Scholars student, I really looked forward to getting back to the "classroom" setting and reconnecting with my Media Scholars community, even if it meant sitting on Zoom from my bedroom. I really appreciate my positively influential teachers Alison and Kelly for adapting to and working around constraints set by the pandemic, yet still making the best of the situation and ensuring that each meeting is the best experience possible. I love hearing from the amazing speakers that are brought in to speak with the class, as their real-world experiences are incredibly inspiring and meaningful. In this new world of online learning, I always look forward to my weekly scholars class. It provides a great opportunity to learn more about what is happening in and around my community during this difficult time and how media plays an increasingly important role, especially in a COVID-19 world where everything has been adapted to be online. I am grateful to the Media Scholars program for teaching me relevant and useful information that will be useful and serve me well for the rest of my time as a student and onwards in life. |
